ABOUT THE BAND

Students in the 3rd through 8th grades are invited to join the school band. Classes will meet two mornings a week in  the school gym, from 7:15 to 7:45. Beginners will come on Tuesdays and Thursdays, advanced students will come on Mondays and Wednesdays. For the health and safety of our students and staff, all Diocesan and Commonwealth guidelines will be strictly observed.  Instruction is offered in all the traditional school band instruments, including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion.  (Percussionists will play both snare drum and xylophone.)  No experience is necessary! Students will perform in two concerts each year: one at Christmas time and one in the Spring.  There may be other performance opportunities as well, including city-wide honor band, combined Catholic School concerts (I'm also the director at St Pius X school in Norfolk) and a variety of camps, ensembles, and lessons over the summer.

EMPHASIS ON MUSICIANSHIP IN AN ENSEMBLE SETTING

Students in the 4th through 8th grades are welcome to participate, no experience is required. (Students with some experience will be given more challenging material, appropriate to their level.)  My teaching is rooted in tried and true classical technique with a healthy dose of modern technology and innovation to keep the student engaged and on track for success.  While providing each child with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music making, our end goal is performance.  These are not just "music lessons" but rather a group instruction setting which will foster camaraderie, teamwork,  and life-long learning, as well as individual accountability and a sense of personal accomplishment.

TUITION

Tuition is just $50 per month, September through May.  This is a flat fee, and is not pro-rated for the number of classes per month.  Band will not meet on days that school is not in session, for instance, over Christmas and Easter break and other school holidays, or closings/delays due to inclement weather.  Each month's tuition is due at the beginning of that month.  If you prefer, you may pay for more than one month at time.  Please make checks payable to Mike Finn, or you may pay securely online with PayPal or Venmo.
